29 Sep 2007 - Mold & District Reds Logo Competition Winner

Former player's mum wins Wrexham fan club logo contest

By Laura Hughes (Evening Leader)

A LUCKY designer who created a new logo for a Wrexham FC supporters club is the mother of a former player.

The Evening Leader teamed up with newly-established Mold and District Reds Supporters Club to give readers the chance to enter a competition to design the supporters club's logo.

The Leader received entries of a very high standard and after club members studied the anonymous designs at their latest meeting they chose Janet Merola's effort.

"I'm really pleased that I won," said Janet, who also won a competition to design Wrexham FC's Millennium Shirt and runs Mold Reds' website.

"My eldest boy Tony used to play for Wrexham for three years and I've been a big fan for years so I'm really pleased to have done this.

"We're building the club up and getting people to join,

I'm very pleased with how it's going."

The club was started because there were already a lot of supporters in Mold and the surrounding area who were keenly attending organised events and travelling on coaches to matches.

"The aim is to support Wrexham Football Club and contribute to things taking place there, like the football academy, and raise money for the club with fundraising events," explained the club's Sandra Edwards.

Janet, of King Street, Mold, wins lifetime Mold Reds membership and £10 in high street vouchers.

In joint second place were Michael Bryan, of Mynydd Isa, and Vinden Jones, of Gwernymynydd, who both win a year's free membership to Mold Reds.
